Spirals of Steam

Spirals of steam rising from the grates,
Swirling, moving, twisting, with the air entwined.
Unseeing, unhearing, uncaring,
Dancing with the wind as it’s curls unwind.

Spirals of steam rising from the grates,
Leaving the putrid darkness behind,
Moving towards their brethren clouds,
Joining forms of similar kind.

Spirals of steam rising from the grates,
Silently moving, completely unconfined.
Mixing with the cold breath of strangers,
Singularly unmaligned.

Spirals of steam rising from the grates,
I watch and wonder what’s on your mind.
Perhaps if I could escape corporeal form,
I’d go with if you if you didn’t mind.
